Ms. McGowan brought three classes to the Parrish Art Museum on Wednesday, December 10th. Mrs. Ramsden's class, Ms. Karoussos' class and our class all had a great day! Steven & William Ladd have a solo show at the Parrish. They met with our students to tell us about the inspiration for their show "Mary Queen of the Universe." The brothers explained the thousands of 'ants' that covered the walls were based on a time when they were kids and their lego tub was covered in ants.
The sculptural scroll boxes displayed in the center of the room also refer to their childhood. The gold ants represent them and their friends playing in the forest near their school. The red and orange represent the holy spirit always moving through their Catholic school.
Robbie enjoyed spinning near "Super Pickle," a piece inspired by a childhood favorite.
Next participated in a 'scrollathon' with the Ladd Brothers. We each practiced making scrolls using some up-cycled belt material. One scroll we were able to name and take home for inspiration. Another scroll was added to the work of about 700 students who came before us.
This piece of art will be on display at the Parrish in February-
along with photographs of the students who created it, including us!

Then we explored the work of Alan Shields. Our class has already been using his art as inspiration for our own painted, torn, and beaded textiles.
